FORM:Â Broadly conical to oval-rounded. Eventually becomes a large tree.
GROWTH RATE:Â Moderate to fast.
FOLIAGE:Â Mid- to lime-green four-lobed leaves up to 20 cm long, distinctly ‘saddle’- shaped. The autumn colour is rich golden-yellow.
FLOWERS:Â Fragrant, greenish-yellow, tulip-shaped flowers with orange centres borne in clusters in late spring to early summer. Only produced on trees approximately seven years or older.
DESCRIPTION:Â Â This is a magnificent large ornamental tree with unique leaves that have a lovely saddle shape. It has striking yellowish-green flowers resembling tulips, hence the common-name reference to the tulip tree. The species is especially suitable for wide lawns in parks and gardens.
LANDSCAPE USES: Magnificent feature or shade tree
 TOLERANCES: Performs best in deep, well drained but moist loam soils that are slightly acid. Irrigation may be required during extremely dry periods. Best in full sun, but may suffer leaf scorch at times. Tolerates air pollution.
TREE CARE:Â Recovery after transplanting may be slow. Can be susceptible to some pests and diseases such as powdery mildew, verticillium wilt, scale and aphids. Large root system that can sometimes have surface roots and therefore needs adequate space for root development. Seedling grown but tends to be quite uniform in habit. Generally unsuitable for windy sites.
