FORM:Â Oval
FOLIAGE: Lush green summer foliage with leaves that tend to stay on the tree longer than usual. Autumn colour is a dark pinkish-red developing to crimson or dark orange-red, hence the nick-name ‘Lipstick Maple’. Colours well in unfavourable conditions. The undersides of the leaves also change from grey in the Spring to pinkish in the Autumn. WARNING – Foliage is toxic to horses. Consider an alternative variety of maple
BARK:Â The bark is a smooth dark grey when tree is juvenile with young twigs exhibiting a bright red colour. Â As the tree ages, the bark becomes darker and develops fine, long fissures.

TOLERANCES: Hardy. Full sun. Adaptable to most soils, colours best in slightly acid soils
TREE CARE:Â Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
