FORM: Rounded
FOLIAGE: Glossy, leathery, medium green leaves turn reddish-orange to dark red in autumn. Young growth tinged red.
FLOWERS and FRUIT: Masses of dark lavender coloured flowers mid-summer to early autumn.
BARK: Young branches are heavily pigmented red, mature branches exfoliate (after about three years) to reveal a light, greyish-brown underbark.
GROWTH RATE:
DESCRIPTION: A very free-flowering and tough shrub or small tree providing interest throughout the year.
LANDSCAPE USES: Excellent for uses such as small garden areas, road median strips and public forecourt planting.
TOLERANCES: Best in moist, well drained, slightly acidic soils in a position receiving full sun. Transplants easily provided adequate moisture levels are maintained.
TREE CARE: Bare rooted Indian Summer® Lagerstroemia should be pruned back by 30% when planted – this will help promote spring growth by allowing the plant to first establish a strong root system.
