FOLIAGE:Â Large leaves in Spring are a shiny green.
 FLOWERS and FRUIT: Flowers of a rose pink and white open to show a white centre in early Spring, borne before the plant comes into leaf.

 GROWTH RATE: Slow to moderate
 DESCRIPTION: This tree has magnificent large purple flowers shaped like a tulip. These appear before the leaves in late winter/spring and are a great contrast against the dark branches.
 LANDSCAPE USES:Â
 TOLERANCES: Plant in a sunny position with good drainage and shelter from wind, so that the flowers are not damaged. Fertilize and prune to shape after flowering if required. Frost tolerant.
 TREE CARE: Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
