FORM: Broadly rounded
FOLIAGE: Foliage is oblong, wavy and bright green, turning darker and shiny as it matures. Foliage turns brown in Autumn.
FLOWERS and FRUIT: The flowers are catkins, produced in spring. The acorns appear during the Summer months.
BARK: Deeply fissured dark grey bark.
GROWTH RATE:
DESCRIPTION: A large spreading tree, with a low-branching canopy. The root system can be invasive.
LANDSCAPE USES: Stately specimen tree for parks and large gardens.
TOLERANCES: Prefers a cooler climate and is tolerant of most soil conditions.
TREE CARE: Plant in a well drained and well worked soil. Take care to plant the bud union above the soil level. Water in well and keep soil moist until tree is established. Fertilize when planting and again after new growth appears. Prune tree when planting to encourage new growth.
